London is one of the world’s most famous cities for architecture, with landmarks ranging from hidden historic buildings to iconic structures such as Big Ben, Tower Bridge, the Palace of Westminster, and St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Designed by Sir Christopher Wren over 35 years, St. Paul’s Cathedral was built primarily with limestone, while marble was used for parts of its interior. Wren’s masterful use of these materials helped create one of London’s defining landmarks.
For more than 250 years, until 1963, St. Paul’s Cathedral was London’s tallest building. Its most distinctive feature is its magnificent triple-dome structure, one of the tallest domes in the world.
The cathedral is not only a symbol of London and Christianity but also the final resting place of Sir Christopher Wren, who was buried in its crypt alongside his greatest architectural masterpiece.
